South African National Blood Service (SANBS)

What is the SANBS ?? well here is their mission statement: The mission of SANBS, an organisation of voluntary, non-remunerated blood donors, is to provide all patients with sufficient, safe, quality blood products and medical services related to blood transfusion, in an equitable, cost effective manner.

Creating Devices to support South Africa's Blood Donation Drive

In this Picture: My brother (Fernando, in the blue t-shirt) and I working hard during the weekend at our workshop in Edenvale (Johannesburg, South Africa), assembling ten units that are to become the controller boards for a unit used by the South African National Blood Service. The Units are used among other things to monitor the amount of blood a donor donates. The unit also ensures that the donated blood does not coagulate during the process, the unit also stops the entire process automatically once a minimum bleed level is reached.

Above: After Assembling the controllers the controller boards are hooked up to a test rig. Here we are testing screen routines, displayed on the LCD diplay. Program flow is also checked and the units ability to measure weight is also tested.

We also build the power supply units for the SANBS devices, In the images below we are are testing the power supplies and adjusting the output voltage as required by the controller units.
